When Logan Boyd’s daughter was born, she said she bloomed into their lives so beautifully after having two sons and she wanted to surround her with flowers for her first birthday. Boyd’s search for flower trucks in Richmond came up empty so she put the idea out of her mind. Things changed after her friend passed away in March: prior to her death, her friend had started her own business so as a way to cope with her death and honor her memory, Boyd started Richmond Flower Truck.

“The opposite of death is life, [and her] passing made me realize I need to accomplish all my dreams while I have the opportunity,” Boyd said. “On May 6, I committed to starting Richmond Flower Truck and on May 9, I officially started my LLC.”

After trying to find someone to renovate the trailer, which she said was the most challenging part, Boyd eventually found CarToyz and worked with them to design the trailer

“The most rewarding part was seeing the trailer for the first time. I literally drew my ideas for the trailer on a piece of paper and gave it to CarToyz, so to see it come to life was amazing,” Boyd said. “It looked better than I imagined. It was also my birthday week when I saw it for the first time, so it was definitely the best birthday present I ever received.”

Richmond Flower Truck is a mobile bouquet bar “where you can create your own handpicked bouquet” by picking your focal flower and accent flowers, adding greenery and then wrap & enjoy. The flower truck can be rented for private events and they also have a flower cart available for rent.

The flower truck’s first popup was in July at The Diamond and Boyd said the support has been amazing. They have had multiple repeat customers, one of whom told her she’s selling flowers with a positive vibe (which is what she wanted), and she said it’s an honor to see the flower truck be loved and supported by the public.

While her customers’ favorite flowers have been Celosia (with the Bombay and the Celway series being a huge hit), it’s hard for Boyd to choose her favorite flower but she said she loves liatris and evening sunflowers.

The flower truck operates nights and weekends as Boyd juggles working full time with running the business, which she said she doesn’t view as work.

“Richmond Flower Truck makes me happy so if I have to spend my evening washing flower buckets or processing flowers, then it’s fine,” Boyd said. “I can also get my family involved so that it’s just family fun time, washing buckets, getting soapy, and spending time together.”

Boyd said she is proud of herself for making the leap from an idea in her head to an actual business, and she gets excited every time she looks at the flower truck. She eventually wants to add additional trailers, a pickup truck and a storefront as Richmond Flower Truck continues to grow; she would love to see a flower festival in Richmond and spoke about the joy of sharing flowers.

“Sharing the joy of flowers with people is a good feeling. Nobody is angry around flowers. It’s just a positive experience. People use flowers as self-care and I am all for it,” Boyd said. “There are so many crazy things going on in the world right now so I just want to use Richmond Flower Truck as a source of light in this world.”
