LeeBruh Greene (born Charles Cliett) has been singing since he was four, started writing at eight and began recording music at fifteen. Music has always been there in Greene’s life, and he listed artists like Michael and Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Babyface, Brandy and Lil Kim as influences.

“I once described myself as a mixture of Lil Kim and Michael Jackson. I believe that to still be true,” Greene said. “For everything Kim would do that Michael wouldn’t, for everything Michael would do that Kim wouldn’t. [My music] is really R&B based but finds love in what would be considered dance, hip hop, pop.”

Greene said he wants to collaborate with people who understand him and he is always eager because he hasn’t worked with many people. His list of dream collaborators is long (Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott and The-Dream just to name a few) and he gushed about the singers that have inspired him.

“Solange is one of my biggest inspirations. Every time she does something, I start creating. Her spirit really just carries. She has a strong sense of identity and what she wants to convey and I admire that so much. Michael and Mariah, as well,” Greene said. “Michael’s heart, passion and love for his artistry always lights a fire in me. With Mariah, I connect to her very deeply. Even more so after reading her book. She not only is extremely talented in everything she does but her choices in lyricism and melodies inspire me a great deal. She’s really so intelligent and it shows in the music.”

Music is a full-time job for Greene and he hopes to take it as far as humanly possible. His love for music, he said, inspires him the most and fuels him to do any and everything.

He has released three projects so far – two EPs “Bein’ Green(e)” in 2015 and “Left Hand LeeBruh” in 2019, and his debut album “Heart Off My Sleeve” in 2018 – and each of them “have mostly been about experiences in love [in] its many different forms and stages”.

Though Greene hasn’t had the success he’s after, he said his projects have a great number of appreciators and it is rewarding for the people who know him to see him as an artist.

During the pandemic, Greene was forced to get to know himself better in every way possible, which gave him the fuel to write and create more. This in turn led to him being in a creative space where he can work at his own pace and perfect things the way he wants them to be.

Greene’s ultimate goal is to share his music with the world and exchange love with people. He is currently working on his second album, which is about 45 percent complete, and aiming for a January release.

“It’s really about the person I’ve learned to become and what I’ve accepted about people in general. I hope to inspire people to be the best they can be to themselves,” Greene said. “By the time they reach the last song on the album, I hope everyone listening will know that there are a millions sides of me and I embrace them all, and they should embrace their millions of sides too.”
